PROVIDENCE, R.1.-Statements by Maribeth Calabro, president of the Providence Teachers Union, and Frank Flynn, president ofthe Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals, on Dan McKee taking over as governor:

PTU President Calabro said: "We look forward to working with Gov. McKee to improve and invest in Providence public schools. To say the least, it's been a difficult year, as we've grappled with the state takeover, disrupted education due to COVID-19, and PTU contract negotiations. We appreciate that McKee sees educators as essential workers, worthy of being prioritized for the COVID-19 vaccination. The PTU is anxious to work with McKee as a partner in a committed effort to get our schools, kids and communities on track to really thrive."

RIFTHP President Flynn said: "We wish Gov. McKee well as he takes on some of the most challenging issues the state has faced in a very long time. Our state's educators and healthcare professionals are heroes on the frontlines and deserve respect and resources to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. We particularly appreciate his position on the urgency to vaccinate teachers and school staff. We are anxious to roll up our sleeves and collaborate with McKee on a host of issues to meet the moment and improve the quality of life for all Rhode Islanders."
